A memorial service to honor and celebrate Zale’s life will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024, beginning at 11:00am, at Bethel Baptist Church, 5701 Mt. Olivet Rd. Kalamazoo, MI 49004. The family will greet visitors at the church from 10:00am to 11:00am, one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be given to Bethel Baptist Church, c/o the funeral home.

Age 70, of Kalamazoo, passed away at Borgess Pipp Hospital in Plainwell, MI on November 8, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Kalamazoo on September 28, 1954, the son of the late Robert and Minnie (Winn) Carpenter. Zale had a selfless personality and was a joy to know. He was always looking for ways to become involved and make a difference. As a young man, he was an active member of the Cub Scouts and Youth for Christ. Later he would serve in the Kalamazoo Jaycees and Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan. He was a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church where his welcoming smile will be missed. He worked hard to provide for those he loved but always kept perspective on what was important. He loved to bowl and was a member of many leagues, enjoyed traveling and took a memorable trip to Alaska, loved trains and was an avid collector of salt and pepper shakers. Above all Zale loved his family and his friends and he will be missed by all who knew him. On June 2, 1990, he married the love of his life, Bonnie L. (Savacool) Carpenter who survives. He is also survived by in-laws, Debbie (Martin) Gantzer, Tony (Pam) Savacool, Duane Savacool, Tim Schrier; nieces and nephews, Jen (Bill) Zuber, Kevin (Shannon) Kotrba, Aaron (Shannon) Kotrba, Brian Schrier, Kaila (Dariel) Garcia, Alex Savacool, Andrew (Nicole Waldvogel) Gantzer, Chad (Allison) Laning, Taylor (Dylan) Lawrence; great niece and nephews, Luke & Ella Laning, Jack & Kohen Lawrence; many extended family and friends. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Barb Kotrba and Nancy Schrier; nephew, Mike Schrier; in-laws, Linda (Savacool) Kolich and Wayne Savacool; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Keith and Maeletta Savacool.
