Obituary

Passed away after battling lung cancer at her daughter’s home on March 25, 2018 in Otsego, Michigan at the age of 77. Audrey is survived by her devoted children, Carrie Weirick, Cathy Weirick, William M. (Kristen) Weirick, and Mary Alice Johnson. Along with her children, she is survived by her cherished grandchildren, Melissa Weirick, Colin Weirick, Melany, Emma, Allison and Alaina Hughes, and Alex and Chloe Dabit. Furthermore, Audrey is survived by and deeply cared for by her favorite cousin, Karen Way; cousin, Tom Lemmer and her brother’s children, Lori Long and Linda Bouwman. She also left behind many loyal friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Leo and Cecelia Lemmer and her most treasured ally, her brother, Larry Lemmer. Audrey was born December 7, 1940 in Kalamazoo, MI. She graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1958 and raised four children in her favorite town of Stevensville, MI. In her early forties, after her divorce, she moved back home with her supportive parents where they cared for one another. Later, her daughter and grandson, Carrie and Colin, moved in with her to do the same. Audrey held various clerical jobs throughout her life, but employment did not define her purpose. Audrey cared most about our country’s politics and was an avid critic of those politicians that lacked integrity. Most importantly, Audrey was a giving person with a great sense of humor. She was true to herself and truthful to others. She made everyone feel cherished and significant. Although Audrey had many hardships in life and struggled with money, she was rich in the ways that mattered. She overcame her strife by sheer determination to be the backbone for her children and grandchildren. Her grandchildren brought her a renewed sense of joy and purpose, and she was deeply loved by them as well. Audrey loved all living creatures - she wouldn’t kill a spider or step on an ant. She lived for and loved her dogs, Sarah, Molly, Buttons, Maya, Sayert, and Harley (and the family cat, Blue) as much as everything else in life and left behind her sweet dachshund, Max.

Our family lived at 1227 Egleston, right next door to the Lemmers. Audrey was my sister Pat’s best friend growing up. They were both born within five days of each other. We all loved Audrey. Even their dog, Sunny and our dog Pepper were good friends. We could not have had better neighbors and friends than the Lemmers. I’m so sad to learn of this. I have nothing but respect for the entire Lemmer family.
