Obituary
Age 90 of Plainwell, passed away Saturday morning, January 17, 2026. Barbara was born in Homer, MI, on May 15, 1935, the daughter of John Arthur and Veeta I. (Labar) Hoag. On August 9, 1975 she married Charles Wayne Bickings who preceded her in death. She was a member of VFW Auxilary Comstock Post #6252 and Plainwell Church of Christ. For many years she worked for Brown Paper Company. In her spare time, she enjoyed dancing with Charlie. She also liked going to the casino. More than anything she liked hosting parties on holidays for family and friends. Barbara is survived by her daughter Sharon (Tom) Honeysett; four grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; sister, Judy (Bill) Wells; nieces and nephews; and many friends. Besides her husband, Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Glenda (Jack) Hamlett; sisters, Shirley Gidding, Nancy Harford, Sandra Hamlin, Patricia Morris.
We reunited at my sister’s (Nanette Hill Bowman) funeral in Vicksburg in May, 2012. Barbara lived with my family on the farm in Vicksburg for a couple years taking care of us 2 sisters while my mom worked and my dad farmed. That was back in 1952-54, when I was about 8 years old. I loved her like my surrogate mom. I always loved her and always will. She was an amazing person, very kind and generous. I will never forget her.
Dear Sharon and Tom, We were saddened to hear of Barb’s passing. She was a fun-loving woman for sure! We have fond memories of both Charlie and Barb at the church and will always value our time with them. Please know that we are praying for you as navigate this new season in your life. She was the best mother in law and friend to me. I will always remember her for her love, energy and kindness. I will miss all the phone conversations, board games and dinners with her. She was such a blessing to me and so many others. Sending thoughts and prayers to all her family and friends who loved her.
