Obituary

Age 90, passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2020. Beth was born in Lake Forest, IL, on April 9, 1930, the daughter of Thomas and Violet (Blackmer) Bigford. Besides her role as mother, Beth devoted her life to music. She was a member of First Congregational Church in Kalamazoo, where she loved singing in the choir. Beth had also enjoyed being in leadership positions in other church’s music ministries and was a private piano instructor. Beth is survived by her children Julie Wilkins of Grand Rapids, George Barber of Fayetteville, NC, Scott (Laurel) Barber of Kalamazoo, Ted (Melissa) Barber of Libertyville, IL; and Connie Barber of Kalamazoo; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, David Bigford; sister, Mary Brett. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, George Barber Sr., and Robert Sambo; brother, Tommy Bigford; sister, Avis Weber.

My Grandma was a beautiful soul, classy in every sense of the word! I asked her to watch over her family, from above. And to play her golden piano in the sky. So whenever I hear piano music coming from somewhere around me, I will know it’s her. I love you Grandma and I will miss you!
