The family is planning a private memorial event to be held at a later date. Betty will be laid to rest next to her husband at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to SPCA of Southwest Michigan.
Obituary
Age 94, passed away on Monday, August 16, 2021. Betty was born in Grand Rapids, MI, on March 3, 1927, the daughter of Joseph and Florence (Quarry) Lewnfield. On December 30, 1948, she married George Merrill, who preceded her in death. She was a housewife her entire life and devoted to her family. Betty is survived by her children, Kathy Copeland of Desert Hot Springs, CA, Julia (James) Reslock of Kalamazoo, Kim Merrill of Kalamazoo, Lyn Johnson of Surprise, AZ, Christine Menzies of Sacramento, CA, Melissa Weston of Kalamazoo, Denise (Jim) Green of Kalamazoo; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; a multitude of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Michael Merrill; daughter, Holly Merrill; sons-in-law, Richard Johnson and Richard Weston; brothers, Rex Lewnfield, Jim Lenfield and Paul Lewnfield.
I know as an adult I didn’t spend much time with Aunt Betty, but I remember she always had a smile a laugh. She was a great Lady. My heart and hugs to all the family. Love you All.
Sending you all love and hugs! You are in my thoughts during this difficult time. I will always think of your mom fondly with a crochet project in her lap and a smile on her face. I still have the afghan she made for my wedding 39 years ago! She made things to last! And always seemed to have a project going. A good woman indeed.
