A private family service will be held at Joldersma & Klein Funeral Home, 917 S. Burdick St. A public Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at a later time when we can all be together. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, c/o the funeral home.
Obituary
Age 82, passed away on Monday, April 27, 2020. Carol was born in Detroit MI, on September 11, 1937, the daughter of Alden and Laura (Ouelette) Riegel. Carol made friends wherever she went. You could be standing in line at a grocery store one moment, and the next moment you’re sharing life stories with a complete stranger. Carol was a devout Catholic and faithfully attended Mass at St. Mary’s in Milford, MI. She also devoted much of her life teaching throughout the Huron Valley school system, where she loved to be with kindergarten and pre-k children. Nothing was more important to her than her family. She loved being involved in the lives of her daughters, Julie (John) Harris of Howell, Catherine (Paul) Benjamin of South Lyon, Laura (Tim) Healey of Kalamazoo; and grandchildren Courtni (Dakotah) Eastwood, Gary Eastwood, Joeseph Merrick, Hannah Merrick, Claire Merrick, Anthony Benjamin, Rachel Benjamin, Mykul (Brooke) Platt, T.C. Healey, and Kaylee Healey; great-grandchildren, Liam, Emmalynn, Maizlee, and Mykul Jr.; siblings, Sister Alice Riegel, Mary Zarem, and Father William Riegel. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Oh momma….. you’ve filled so many lives with your love, your infectious smile, your support and your caring soul. I will forever be grateful for what you have taught me all of these years. My world will not be the same without you and I beg your healing hands surround me so I can accept that you are no longer here with us in body. I know you are with us in spirit and dancing with the other angels. Give me the strength to accept all of this. You’re no longer in pain, you’re no longer suffering, and knowing you, you’re running around up there and looking for all of the others you know …. as well as making many, many, many new friends. It was a pleasure to have met Carol when she was here visiting Laura, Tim, TC and Kaylee. The love she had for her family was obvious by the joy in her face when she was with them. She extended her kindness to Greg and I anytime we were around. She was truly a sweet, kind and loving person. She will be missed.
I worked with Carol at the Milford Public Library. She was a lovely, kind person, an incredibly hard worker, and had an amazing attitude toward life. I feel privileged to have known her. I know that now she is happy with her Father in Heaven. My thoughts and prayers are with her family during this difficult time. May they find comfort in their happy memories.
Carol always had a smile and a loving cheerfulness about her. Julie’s tribute is how I knew Carol, too. She was always so sweet.
