A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 23, 2022 at Haven Reformed Church, 5350 N. Sprinkle Rd., Kalamazoo, MI 49004 at 1:00 PM. Visitation will take place at Joldersma & Klein Funeral Home on Thursday, September 22, 2022 from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 PM. Cathy spent numerous years volunteering for Great Lakes Burn Camp and the family requests that memorial contributions in her memory may be made to Great Lakes Burn Camp or the family (checks payable to Randy Thompson), c/o the funeral home.

Age 64, passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2022. Cathy was born on April 26, 1958, in Muskegon, Michigan, the daughter of the late Alden and Estella (Gaunt) VanWormer. On March 2, 1979, she married Randy L. Thompson, who survives. Cathy is also survived by her children, Angela (James) Gibbons, Kevin (Sarah) Thompson and Matthew (Megan) Thompson; grandchildren, Alexis and Kristen Gibbons, Todd and Tylor McClain, Marc Thrasher and Micah, Sebastian and Gabriel Thompson; sister, Peggy Adrion; sisters in-law, Shelly (Earl) Thompson and Connie Thompson; special aunt, Sharon Doelker; several nieces and nephews and many close friends. Besides her parents, Cathy was preceded in death by her brothers, Jerry and Jimmy VanWormer; father and mother in-law, Frank and Barbara Thompson; brothers in-law, Jim Adrion and Robert and Roger Thompson; sister in-law, Cindy Thompson and nephew, Aaron Thompson. Cathy enjoyed traveling, camping and trips to the casino and had a passion for all things related to Elvis and Bigfoot. She loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. Cathy also loved her dogs and leaves behind her beloved Apollo. My heart and sincere condolences to the family and friends left behind there is a void that will heal in time, but the sting is felt now and we need to rely on one another to help the healing process. Cathy was a great neighbor, friend, travel buddy. I will never forget the cruise to the Bahamas and you going with me to get my “Guy” burger almost daily. We had some good times that will forever be in my memory box and forever in my mind and heart. Farewell Cathy, may you find peace and forever happiness in our saviors promise land.
For a sweet friend who taught me what faith and courage was. You gave me “Hope and Inspiration” when I thought there was none. I have so many wonderful memories of you,, Pat and I, which I will treasure always. Holding your friendship forever in my heart. You will be forever missed . Love & prayers to your family. So, so sorry for your lose Randy. We had many fun motorcycle rides with you guys and the Rollridge Riders, Keeping you and your family in our hearts & prayers.

So sorry Randy and family for your loss. I never got to meet Cathy but I’m sure we would have gotten along famously!!! I’ve known you since Jr high Randy, and you are always there when anyone needs you. Now, I hope your close friends rally around you and provide the comfort you need now.
