Obituary

Charles “Chuck” Rogers, age 77, of Kalamazoo, passed away on Saturday, October 10, 2026.

Chuck was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, on February 5, 1949, the son of Clyde and Bertha (McBride) Rogers. He proudly served in the United States Army from January 1969 through December 1970.

On October 14, 1978, Chuck married the love of his life, Norma Jean Harrell. This year would have marked their 48th wedding anniversary. Each year, Chuck and Norma celebrated their anniversary by spending the week up north, enjoying the beautiful fall colors. In recent years, they were also fortunate to spend their winters in Florida, where they formed special friendships that remained an important part of their lives.

Chuck was deeply involved in his church for many years and served in several roles. As the kids fondly said, “He was the best Sunday school teacher ever.”

Chuck worked at the Kalamazoo Mill of Graphic Packaging International from November 21, 1977, until his retirement on March 31, 2014. After many years of hard work, he was able to cross golfing at Pebble Beach off his bucket list. He treasured sharing that unforgettable experience with his two sons and brother-in-law and talked about it until the day he died.

An avid outdoorsman, Chuck enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, and camping with family and friends. In his younger years, he was a dedicated upland game hunter and a crack marksman, known for his exceptional skill with a firearm. He shared countless good times at the hunting cabin with his best friends and his boys. He especially looked forward to his annual trip to the Mississippi River, where he fished from the barge with his good friend, Ole Al.

Chuck loved sharing his musical talents with family and friends, whether around a campfire or anywhere a crowd had gathered. He was well known for his quick wit, wonderful sense of humor, and the many voices and sounds that delighted children of all ages—especially the all-time favorites, Sneaky Snake and Donald Duck. He loved telling jokes and sending funny memes simply to make others smile.

Above all, Chuck loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and children of all ages. His warmth, laughter, faith, and playful spirit will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

Chuck is survived by his beloved wife, Norma; his children, Trina (Danny) Scott, Melissa Tutt, Rebecca Bernal, Charles Rogers Jr., Matthew (Valerie) Rogers and Scott Robinson; his brothers, Larry (Brenda) Rogers and Russell Rogers; his sisters, LouAnn Boyd and Penny Warren; his brothers-in-law, Terry (Donna) Byers, Ron Harrell, and Louis Byers; his sisters-in-law, Janice Beauchamp, Martha Serio, Maria (Scott) Bielski, Roberta Harrell, Barb Rust, and Becky Hallberg; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Lester Allen Rogers, Earl Rogers, Jim Rogers, and Dale Rogers; his brothers-in-laws, Patrick Warren, Jerry Byers, Robert Smith, Donald Harrell, and Wayne Beauchamp; and his sister-in-laws, Phyllis Rogers and Glenda Rogers.

We will truly miss our brother in Christ. Our thoughts and prayers are with Norma and family with his Homegoing. We enjoyed his playing his guitar and singing at LHV Church Services. Dennis enjoyed playing golf with him. He was a Great Friend to us.

There are so many great memories with you and one that still makes me laugh is last year when I was helping put lights on the Christmas tree. We all laughed so much! I’m going to miss hearing you play the guitar and sing songs. I always enjoyed our camping trips and loved when you would sing Christmas carols during baking weekend. I still laugh how you nicknamed my Grandma “Ruthie”. She sure loved listening to you play the guitar. I promise to be there for Norma and Missi always. Rest easy my dear friend. You are no longer suffering.
