Obituary

Age 63, passed away at her home on April 11, 2023. She was born in Battle Creek, MI, on September 11, 1959, the daughter of the late Clare “Bud” Bagnall and Janice (Reed) Tadman. Cheryl was a kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Particularly in her younger years, she loved hosting celebrations for family and friends. Throughout her life, she enjoyed food preparation and liked getting new ideas for meals from her favorite cooking shows. She was an avid reader of mystery and romance novels and enjoyed gathering with her friends from book club. Cheryl took great delight in decorating for various holidays and thoughtfully selecting gifts for loved ones.  On June 22, 1985, she married the love of her life, Philip J. Egan. Together they loved to travel, read, and go out to breakfast. Phil and Cheryl would take an annual trip to Lake Michigan where they visited various boutiques, restaurants, and beaches. The Traverse City area and in particular, the Cherry Republic was one of Cheryl’s favorite spots to pick up souvenirs for loved ones. Recently, Cheryl attended a family reunion where she relished catching up with different branches of the family. In the final decades of her life, she suffered from multiple sclerosis, an affliction that she bore with grace and patience. Cheryl was very devoted to family and friends; she provided unwavering support to those in her life and always made sure to vocalize her love at the end of every conversation. She is survived by her husband, Philip Egan, three children, Teresa (Brian) Thomas, Claire Grimm, Sarah Egan; three grandchildren, Owen, Micah and Sienna Thomas; sister, Carol (Dave) Craun; many nieces, nephews, and friends. Preceding her in death are her parents, Clare Bagnall and Janice Tadman, step-father Harry Tadman, brothers Dennis and David Bagnall, and step-brother Michael Tadman.

Dearest Phil and family, I want to share my very deepest sympathy to each of you for this loss of your wonderful Cheryl. She certainly was a one-of-a-kind lady. Never have I ever met someone with such a positive and bubbly attitude as she spoke from her wheelchair. Cheryl was an absolute delight to be with at our reunion events over the last several years. She was an angel and God needed her home. May He wrap his arms around each of you and give your comfort and strength through this time and as you go forward. Robbie Dunn 1967 SJHS

Phil & family, So very sorry to hear of Cheryl’s passing. Our paths crossed when we bought your home when we first came to Kalamazoo- was most thankful to stay in contact while we remained in your old home and our children were smaller. Will never forget her magical laughter; it resonates with me still. May fond memories sustain you as you learn to live without her earthly presence. Will light a candle for her tonight ~ long may her light shine.
