Daniel Dearing Wood of 1909 Oakland Dr., Kalamazoo, Michigan passed on to his next life on May 13, 2024, five days before his 94th birthday. He was the only child of Francis and Dorothy Wood of Mayville, New York. He enjoyed a 69-year marriage to Elsie M. Wood until her death in 2021.  They had two daughters: Nicki Wood and Mindi Wappat.

Most of his married life with Elsie was spent in Mayville, New York. The couple moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan in 2012, to live with their eldest daughter Nicki and her husband Dennis Schrantz. Daniel served his country as a Naval Corpsman during the Korean War. He was employed by the Village of Mayville until his retirement.

In his younger years Dan enjoyed fishing, golfing, coin collecting, playing chess, and taking his grandchildren to swim in Chautauqua Lake near their home in Mayville. As he grew older, he continued to be an avid reader. One of his favorite sayings to his grandchildren was “Reading opens up a whole new world!”. He spent most of his last year enjoying time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Daniel is survived by his daughter Nicki and husband Dennis, their three children and spouses, and grandchildren, Megan Webb (Dan and daughters George and Florence ), Noah Wood-Schrantz, and Kali Rose Wood-Schrantz (Justin Hutchison and daughter Ramona); his daughter, Mindi Wappat, and her three children, their spouses and grandchildren, Thomas Wappat (Megan Galbraith and daughter Una); Carri Wappat Burns (Nate and children, Piper, Cole, and Oscar); and Timothy Wappat (Chelsea Nattrass and daughters Marisol and Mae). Besides his parents, Daniel was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie, his grandson, Aaron Wood- Schrantz of Kalamazoo Michigan and his son-in-law, Bradley Wappat of Oneonta, New York.
