Obituary
Age 72, passed away at his home on Tuesday evening, September 29, 2020. Dave was born in Kalamazoo, on November 28, 1947, the son of John and Dorothy (Hall) Potgiesser. On February 14, 1987, he married Elaine Heighton, who survives him. Dave proudly served his nation in the U.S. Army in Korea in the DMZ from 1968-1969. He retired from Interkal after 27 years of service. Dave enjoyed being outdoors on his 16 acres in Alamo. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a fan of the stock car races at the Kalamazoo Speedway. He loved bonfires and working his word searches. When he married Elaine, he also married her family, and became a dad to her daughters who also survive, Michelle Powell of Scotts and Cheri Powell of Portage. He is also survived by his grandsons, Elijah Merritt and Rayce Henagan; and his little buddy, Tripper; and countless friends. He loved his family more than anything and he will be missed very much.
Too young.. Too soon.. Rest in peace David.
Elaine, I am so sorry to hear of Dave’s passing. He was such a fun loving guy. I remember fondly our trips together to Cancun. Such fun. And he cared so much about you and your 2 daughters. I am so sad for you right now. It is never easy to lose someone so suddenly. Know that I love you and are thinking about you.
David, I miss you so much. Thank you for being our bonus Dad. You showed us unconditional love. You and Mom built a beautiful life together. Thank you for being you. Please watch over us and your boy Tripper!
Sincere condolences to Elaine and family at David’s passing. Dave was a beloved member of the Parchment High School class of 1966. We all appreciated Dave’s kind polite manner, and he earned the deep respect and friendship of all the students, teachers, and administrators. May fond memories of his love and kindness, and of his life well lived, help ease the pain of David’s untimely loss.
