A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Joldersma & Klein Funeral Home, 917 S. Burdick St., Kalamazoo. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, in c/o the funeral home.
Obituary
Age 72, passed away on Friday morning, February 16, 2024. Dennis was born in Kalamazoo on January 2, 1952, the son of Harry Thomas and Katherine (Jancasz) Althuis. On January 30, 1976, he married Nancy Hoekman who survives him. Dennis was a lover of classic and vintage vehicles. As a comic book fan and collector, he attended many ComiCon conventions. He loved Star Trek and WWE wrestling, never missing an episode of either. He enjoyed travelling to visit his sister Evon, making sure to stop at a couple casinos along the way. As a great conversationalist, he was a natural at handing out samples at Costco in his retirement. Dennis was a giving person; nothing was more important than helping family and friends. Besides his wife, Dennis is survived by his children, Jessica (Derek) Albrecht, Justin (Katie) Althuis; grandson, Jackson Albrecht; brother, Vincent Mizeur; sisters, Joyce Larabee and Evon Nuss; several nieces and nephews; and many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Charlotte Mizeur and Anne Marie Reynolds; in-laws Kathy, Ed, Ron, and Charles.
Nancy, I was so sorry to hear of Dennis’ passing. May the Lord comfort you and your family during this time.
Dennis has always been a giving person. I remember when we were young and our dad bought us candy. I would always con Dennis into sharing some of his candy with me. However, being the mean,older sister when the roles were reversed; I would never share. In more recent years Dennis always made it a point to visit his siblings who didn’t get out and about. I know his visits will be missed.
Since I will only be there in spirit today; I want to share a couple of other memories. When Dennis visited us when we lived near South Padre Island he took me parasailing with him. It was a great experience and probably something I would have never done on my own. Dennis loved our family tradition of making pierogies at Christmas time. And my niece, Shelly are the ones who were instrumental in keeping this tradition alive. It was a tiring day; but, always so much fun. Dennis loved eggnog; I was always amazed at how much he could drink that day.
Just found out about Dennis passing. He was a good man. Good memories of him working at Eckrich. He did mechanical work for me as well. Sorry for your loss.
