Obituary
Diann S. Lentz age 62 of Kalamazoo passed away Tuesday June 2, 2026, at home. Diann was born May 14, 1964, in Davenport, IA the daughter of William and Nancy (Lange) Ross. She was a graduate of Dubuque, Iowa Senior High School and Hawkeye Institute of Technology. Diann was a loan officer for First of America Bank, and she enjoyed ice skating and bike rides. On August 7, 1993, in Shelbyville Diann was united in marriage to James S. Lentz who survives. Also surviving are her parents William and Nancy Ross; two brothers, David Ross, Mike (Robin) Ross; niece, Hannah Ross; nephew, Andrew Ross.
Diann Susan (Ross) Lentz I met Diann when we were 10 years old, in fifth grade. Her family moved into the house next door to ours, in Dubuque, Iowa. When I heard that the Ross family had a daughter my age, I rushed right over, introduced myself, and we quickly became inseparable friends. We played outside together whenever we could, building forts in the nearby woods, riding bikes and skateboards, and running through sprinklers. We loved playing all kinds of games and we spent hours building and decorating cardboard houses for our favorite dolls. My family moved to Michigan about two years later. Our moms were also good friends, and made sure we were able to stay in contact. We got to visit each other at least once a year, have occasional long-distance phone conversations, and we wrote many letters. When we were both still in college, she came to Michigan for the summer break. We got jobs at the same place with the same schedule, since she didn’t have a car here, and spent a fun summer doing everything together. After she graduated from college, she moved to Michigan permanently. We loved shopping, decorating, gardening, playing cards, and just being together. After she was diagnosed with MS, a lot of the things we loved doing together became more difficult for her. She volunteered for the MS Society and started an MS support group that is still going strong, in her absence. She thought of the name “Sole Mates” for our MS Walk team, made up of her family and friends. For several years, we walked in the MS Walk to help raise money for the National MS Society. She will be profoundly missed. She was an extremely funny, smart and strong-willed person. She was generous, giving, and deeply loved her family and friends.
Diann was a dear friend and she will be deeply missed. I met Diann in 1987 while working with her at Casual Corner. We quickly became friends and I eventually moved in with her and her best friend Lisa. After graduating from college we roomed together for a period of time before I moved away from Kalamazoo. Our friendship remained strong even with the distance between us. When I moved back to Kalamazoo, it was shortly afer that Diann was diagnosed with MS. She dedicated many hours to the MS Society volunteering for the annual walks and leading support groups. I was also a member of “Sole Mates” her team for the annual walk in Kalamazoo. We spent many springs enjoying the annual walks and connecting with Diann and her wonderful family. There are many stories of our adventures and I will cherish them forever. Rest in pease dear Diann. I will always love you like a sister.
