Obituary
Age 83 of Kalamazoo passed away at her home on November 4, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. She was born in Kalamazoo on August 11, 1941, the daughter of the late George and Lula (Giddings) Sanders. Dorothy had a keen intellect, was a voracious reader and had a passion for knowledge. She loved computers, which led to a career at the Upjohn Company where she worked as a computer programmer. When not working she could be found sitting quietly with a book in hand. She enjoyed traveling and wintered in Casa Grande, AZ, and returned to Kalamazoo for the summer months. Dorothy was selfless and took time to help her neighbors or a friend in need. She also enjoyed riding motorcycles and was a member of the conservation club and a lifetime member of the VFW. Above all Dorothy loved her family and her friends and her gentle smile will be missed by all. She is survived by two children, Cheryl Thomas and Michael Sleeman; a sister, Vicki (Philip) Pettitt; grandchildren, Robert Thomas; great-granddaughter- Lily Thomas; extended family and friends. She was also preceded in passing by five siblings, Jack, Joyce, Georgia, David and Kathy.
Dort and I started at Upjohn’s 2 weeks apart. We continued to work together on & off for over 30 years. Many years of memories. Lunches, parties, laughs, and tears for the co-workers we lost. Please accept my sincere sympathy to the entire family. Sandy Sprague
