A service to honor and celebrate Dorothy’s life will be held at the funeral home on Monday, July 14, 2025, beginning at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 10:00 am, one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kalamazoo Humane Society, c/o the funeral home.
Obituary
Age 85, of Kalamazoo, passed away at Bronson Hospital on July 4, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Dorothy May was born at her family home on Austin Lake, on January 31, 1940, the daughter of the late Victor and Fannie (Wood) Ridenour. She was raised in Vicksburg and would make her home in Kalamazoo, MI. Dorothy was kind, loving, and generous with an outgoing personality that brought joy to others. The light of her life was her family and friends. She was a loving mother and an involved grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She worked hard as a housekeeper and did her best to provide for her family. When not working she enjoyed spending time at home, going shopping at Meijer and feeding the squirls, ducks and dogs. She enjoyed traveling and made many memorable trips and always dreamed of going to Paris. Dorothy had a wonderful smile, great laugh and was a joy to know. She leaves behind the legacy of a life well lived and will be missed. She is survived by two children, David Ridenour, Leta (Willie) Thurman; five grandchildren, Lettitica Lee, Andrena (Aubrey) Stroman, Willie (Nikishia) Thurman, Tasha Lee, Corey Lee; twenty-one great-grandchildren; thirteen great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Nancy, Jackie, Diane, Barb, Vic, Jimmy Terry; many extended family and friends. She was preceded in passing by her husband, Samuel Lee in 1995; a son, Mark Lee; grandson, “Baby Lee”; several siblings.
