In accordance with his wishes, cremation will take place and a gathering to celebrate Doug’s life will be held in the future. In lieu of flowers, donations to help cover medical bills and living expenses are appreciated, c/o the funeral home. Family and friends are encouraged to leave a condolence message for Doug’s family.
Obituary
Doug, age 65, passed away at home on June 15, 2020 after a lengthy illness. He was born on February 20, 1955 in Rockland, Maine, the son of Otis and Irene (Simmons) Drake. After graduating high school, Doug began his career and eventually retired from Davis Oil Company as a maintenance supervisor in the gas and oil industry. Doug was famous for his crazy sense of humor and his family will fondly remember him for his fearlessness and how well he took care of those he loved. On September 11, 1998, he married Nancy Armstrong and they most recently celebrated 21 years of marriage. Doug was preceded in death by his parents but leaves many who will miss him dearly. Those family members include his wife Nancy, children, Doug (Loretta) Drake, Kristen (Michael) Smith and Corey (Kelly) Douglas. He will be dearly missed by his beloved grandchildren, Landon, Cody and Jackson Drake; Lilly, Grace, Declan and Liam Smith, and Brooklyn and Molly Douglas. There are many people the family wishes to thank; especially Hospice of Southwest Michigan.
My heart breaks for Nancy and family. Doug was a great person who could make anyone laugh. Nancy and him helped me get through the death of my son and for that I will be eternally thankful. My prayers for you and your family Doug!
Nancy and family, I am so very sorry for your loss. Doug was such a great guy and a good friend for many years. He was always friendly and smiling and my dearest friend for a long time. Nothing I can say will make it any better, but know my thoughts and prayers are with you all.
It was a pleasure knowing Doug. We enjoyed the times we went out on the lake with you guys and wish there would have been more opportunities to do that. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time, Nancy.

So sorry to hear this. Mark and I grew up with Doug, so many memories, he and Mark were like brothers, 2 double trouble boys, as close as brothers All our Prayers are with you and the Family God Bless you
