Dwight "Butch" Easley

Dwight left a wonderful legacy, and he will be missed by so many people. Services will be held at Maple Methodist Church 342 Capital Ave. N.E. Battle Creek, MI, 49017, on Saturday, September 19, 2026, beginning at 1:00 p.m., where Rev. Linda Stoddard officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:00 p.m., one hour prior to the service. A memorial gathering will follow at the American Legion Post 54 in Battle Creek. Dwight will be interred in Fort Custer National Cemetery with Military Honors beside his former wife, Karen.
God played an important part in Dwight’s life. He would want everyone to know that God is Love. The Lord loves all people equally and will never leave nor forsake you. We are not given love to keep, but to give away to others

Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of a great husband, father, grandfather, and brother. Dwight “Butch” Lee Easley passed away, in Kalamazoo Michigan, August 26, 2026, after a brave battle with Lung Cancer. Dwight was born July 3, 1945, in Louisville, Kentucky to Clarence Winand and Della Beatrice Faulk. On February 13, 1965, he married the love of his life, Karen Joan Wilson. They we married until Karen died suddenly in 2010 from a brain aneurism. They grew up together, traveled together, played together. They had a beautiful daughter Jennifer and doted on her. After Karen’s death, Dwight married a friend from Church, Wilma Gene Waskom in 2012. Sadly, shortly thereafter Wilma developed Aggressive Dementia and passed in 2017. Dwight had known Eleanor Marie Null (Heacock) for several years from doing VBS and classes for Community of Christ in Kalamazoo. They decided to marry in 2018 as Eleanor was finishing her master’s degree. They travelled to many places together and had a fulfilling life. In December 2025 Dwight was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer that had already metastasized to his bones and liver. He fought a brave fight but eventually the cancer overtook him.
Dwight served his country faithfully in the Air Force and Air Defense command. That was what brought him to Michigan, to Battle Creek. Dwight also became an Elder in the Community of Christ and eventually became pastor of the Battle Creek Church, where he served until 2019. Dwight was a member of American Legion Post 54 and served as their finance officer for 15 years, until shortly before he passed. The Battle Creek Police Department and the Battle Creek VA Hospital, where he served as a chaplain for several years, were grateful to Dwight for his services. Dwight was well known at Fort Custer National Cemetery as he served as an Honor Guard Member for 17 years, including several years as Squad Leader. This was so fulfilling for Dwight as he gave Military Honors to those who had bravely served our nation. Dwight was treasured by many who knew him.
Dwight is survived by his widow, Eleanor (Ellie) Easley; daughter, Jennifer (Ron) McComb; stepchildren, Roger (Debra) Heacock Jr., Helen Gray; special daughter, Susanne (Tim) Wiley and Shannon (Carl) Giambrone; grandchildren, Alex (Brian) McComb, Sophie McComb, Jordan Hamilton; sister, Frances Ladd Griffith, of Louisville Kentucky.
