The family is planning a graveside service later this spring at West Cooper Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest with her son. Memorial contributions may be given to American Cancer Society or American Diabetes Association.
Obituary
Age 86, passed away on Monday, March 1, 2021. Edith was born in Kalamazoo, on June 8, 1934, the daughter of Paul and Ruby Fay (Parker) Docsa. On September 5, 1953, she married Maurice Junior Pontius who preceded her in death on July 3, 2002. Edith was an avid gardener. She enjoyed having lunch with her friends. Nothing was more important to her than her family and her home. Her grandchildren will remember spending time with her around the pool and laughing with her. Laura, her only granddaughter enjoyed their daily telephone conversations. Edith is survived by her daughters, Sharon (Rick Cronkite) Pontius and Deb (Jerald) Smith; grandchildren, Laura (Danny) Simmons, Michael (Susan) Simmons, David Smith, Jesse Pontius; 2 great-grandchildren, Johnathan Falls, and Ella Davis; sister, Nancy Caro; several nieces and nephews; and many friends. Besides her husband, Edith was preceded in death by her parents; and a son, Dave Pontius; and a grandson, James Smith; a brother, Richard Docsa; a sister, Charlene Dykehouse.
