Obituary
Edward “Val” Tiller Sr, age 88, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2026, at Kairos Dwelling. Val was born on June 21, 1938, to Charles and Geneva Tiller. On June 5, 1959, he married Carol, and together they shared 67 years of marriage, raising their family and building a lifetime of memories.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; his children, Ed (Julie) Tiller Jr and Sherri (Chuck) Hahn; his grandchildren, Jason (Jenni) Tiller, Josh (Caitlyn) Tiller, Stephanie (James) Sinkler, and Audrey (John) Chudecke; and his great-grandchildren, Colten, Rylee, Everlee, and Natalee Tiller, and Drevyn and Haidyn Sinkler. Val spent his career with Graham Roofing, working through many long, hot summer days until his retirement. He believed in hard work and wasn’t afraid of it. A talented mechanic, Val could fix just about anything with a motor. Whether it was a car, lawn mower, or small engine, he enjoyed figuring out how to make it run again. He also painted cars, taking pride in doing the job right. He passed those mechanical skills on to both of his children, teaching them how to work with their hands and solve problems on their own. In his free time, Val enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and trying his luck at the casino. At home, he could often be found pestering the family dog, Cricket, much to everyone’s amusement. One of his favorite retirement routines was going out for breakfast with Carol at Judy’s Restaurant and Julianna’s. He liked teasing the waitresses, who always gave it right back and did their best to get a smile out of him. Val lived a long life and will be remembered in many different ways by those who knew him. His knowledge, work ethic, mechanical ability, and the lessons he passed on to his family are all part of the legacy he leaves behind. The family extends their sincere gratitude to two special people at Beacon Health- Christopher, his nurse and Dr. Anne Cavanaugh for their support and care of Val this week. We also appreciate the compassionate staff at Kairos Dwelling for the exceptional care and kindness they provided during Val’s final day.
A life is measured not only by its years, but by the people whose lives it touches. Please share your memories with the family. Those memories will keep his spirit alive for the years to come and help them with their grief.
