A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 2, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Second Christian Reformed Church, 3015 Nichols Rd., Kalamazoo, MI 49004. Interment will be at Almena Cemetery. Visitation will take place at Joldersma & Klein Funeral Home on Thursday, August 1 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Forgotten Man Ministries or Alternatives of Kalamazoo.
Obituary
Age 72, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 28, 2019, with his family by his side. Fred was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on March 8, 1947, the son of the late Frederick L. and Dora E. (VanAndel) DeYoung. He was a graduate of Kalamazoo Christian and earned his Bachelor of Music from Western Michigan University. Fred worked as a glazier and was employed by Mulder Glass, Reliable Glass and was currently employed part-time at Precision Glass. He was a charter member at Paw Paw Christian Reformed Church and a current member at Paw Paw First Baptist Church. Fred loved music, singing in many choirs and as a soloist. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, canoeing, hunting and fishing; he especially enjoyed sharing these loves with his grandsons. Fred and his wife, Nancy, also enjoyed traveling, including yearly Memorial Day weekend trips to Mackinaw City and even took a special 50th anniversary trip with their whole family to Alaska. On June 21, 1968, he was united in marriage to the former Nancy K. Sopjes, who survives. Fred is also survived by his children, Fred DeYoung and Rhonda (Joel) Lubben; grandsons, Joshua, Ryan, Matthew and Nathan Lubben; brothers, Wayne (Sandy), Bert (Carol) and Paul (Anita) DeYoung; brother in-law, Mark (Anne) Wiersma; sister in-law, Barb (Roy) Meiste; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Daniel Lubben and sister, Eileen Wiersma.

Nancy and family, Saddened by your loss and our loss also. Fred will always be remembered as a very kind, friendly and enjoyable person. He now has the wings he always knew were waiting for him when he left this life. Our love and prayers are with you as we will not be able attend any of the tributes.
