Obituary
Age 80, passed away at his home on July 16, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 23, 1940, in Decatur, MI, the son of the late Harold and Mildred (Parish) Ewert. He remained a lifelong resident of Southwest Michigan. He was an accomplished carpenter who worked hard to provide for his family. When not working, he enjoyed fishing for blue gills and salmon, ice fishing (especially spearing for pike), and playing golf with his friends. Fred was generous, hardworking, and honest. He believed in the “American Way,” enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and was always willing to help those in need. He had a strong resilience which helped him through the loss of his son Frederick Ewert Jr. who passed away in 1975 at the age of 15. Fred loved his family and friends and leaves them with many wonderful memories of a life well lived. On September 27, 1958, he married his High School sweetheart, Louise E. (Slover) Ewert. They enjoyed 51 years of marriage before her passing in 2009. Fred is survived by his son Gary (Mary) Ewert, of Palatine, IL and sister Carol A Antles of Gobles, MI.
Came on the site to leave a memory of a family friend that just passed away and found this. Mr. Ewert and his wife took me to see Elvis Presly in Kalamazoo at Wings stadium in 1977 and at the end of the show Mrs. Ewert told me to march right up there to the stage and try to shake Elvis’ hand (we had second row seats because Mrs. Ewert went to wings about a week before tickets went on sale and camped out ,the good old days). So I went to the stage and held out my hand and closed my eyes and was saying “please shake my hand” and when I opened my eyes there’s Elvis with his “Elvis smile” (you know the one ,like he said “I did 31 pictures that way”) and he shook my hand. As Mr. Ewert put it “I came unglued” ,which was somewhat of an undersatement. Hard to believe over 44 years has gone by since then but that memory for me is clear as yesterday. Not too many people can honestly say they shook hands with Elvis, but I did and I owe it all to Mr. and Mrs. Ewert. My condolences go out to all his family and friends. Jamie Simpson
Gary So sorry to hear that your Dad had passed. It was great reconnecting with him after all these years. Hearing his laugh always made me smile. Mike
