Garry Edward Halbert age 83 of Portage passed away Wednesday morning, July 22, 2026. Garry was born in Sturgis, MI, on April 4, 1943, the son of Gerald and Velma E. (Frutig) Halbert. He was united in marriage to Roberta Jean Paul who preceded him in death in 2024. Garry proudly served his nation in the United States Air Force. He was a huge sports lover. He followed all the Michigan teams and was a fan of Notre Dame. He was an avid golfer and was proud to have a one hole in one. He was also a bowler and had played a perfect 300 game. He was employed for 35 years at The Upjohn Company before retiring. Garry had a great sense of humor and he will be sorely missed. Garry is survived by his children, Deborah Jean Bean and Steven Paul (Miranda) Halbert; grandchildren, Casey Halbert, Nathan Halbert, Cyrus Halbert; great-granddaughter, Harmoni; brother, Gene (Joyce) Halbert; many nieces and nephews; and countless friends including his special canine friend, Dolly. Besides his wife Garry was preceded in death by his parents, his twin brother, Larry (Jennie) Halbert.
