Obituary

Gwen Lynn Robertson, age 84, passed away at the Laurels of Galesburg on July 5, 2026. She was born in Kalamazoo on January 22, 1942, one of five children of the late Charles and Dorothy (Mason) Robertson. Gwen was a woman of genuine joy and spirit. She was a social butterfly who made friends wherever she went. Her smile, laughter and enthusiasm brought joy to her community and those around her. Though she never had kids of her own, her nieces and nephews became the center of her life, and she filled their days with memories to cherish. She also babysat for many children throughout the community, often serving a family for three generations. She graduated from Comstock High School, class of 1960. She believed in working hard and was employed by American National Bank. Gwen enjoyed traveling and even braved solo road trips to Florida. She spent time doing crafts including knitting and crocheting. In life, it was people who mattered most to Gwen and her heart made room for loving them all. She will be missed and remembered by her family and friends and survived by many people who loved her.

I remember Aunt Gwen’s collection of China and glass skunks when she lived with Grandpa and grandma near Kindleberger Park. Her upstairs bedroom and it’s now covered mid century furniture. She loved to play softball too.

We meant Gwen in 1976 as we lived across from each other in the Galesburg Village Apartments. We both eventually moved but still kept in contact with each other and became lifelong friends. She spent time with my family and babysit all my kids at one time or another. She was a wonderful person who would do anything for anyone and will be truly missed. Love you Gwen and May you rest in heaven.
