She will be interred at Mt Everest and a memorial service will be held later in the spring at Texas Corners Bible Church, when it is deemed to be safe to do so. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to Texas Corners Bible Church. Family and friends are encouraged to leave a message of condolence in Harriett’s guest book.
Obituary
Harriette Jean DeVries went peacefully home to be with the Lord on January 24, 2021. Her parents, Harold and Mildred (Parish) Ewert, precede her as well as husbands Joseph Crummel and Donald DeVries. Her children, Debra Drummond, David Drummond, Deanna (Steve) McCulfor, Joi (Tom) Bonk and Steve II (Sheila) Carpenter, several stepchildren and many grandchildren, survive her. Harriette was a retired mailroom employee of the Kalamazoo Gazette and an avid league bowler. She was a loving daughter, mother and grandmother. Her earthly body will be missed and her heavenly body awaits us all. When we all get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be! In 1937 Harriette was born. It was a great day and year. She was a compassionate and loving woman that sacrificed a lot for her kids. She worked hard her whole life. There were times that she worked 3 jobs to care for her kids. Through every hard time, she rose to every challenge. For many years, she had longed to be with Jesus. She told us late in life not to be sad when she passed, but to rejoice and be glad for her because she is where she wanted to be. She was very religious. Everyone in her life knew that she loved the Lord. She will be missed greatly by all who knew her. One of Harriette’s favorite hymns was Great is Thy Faithfulness. We remember her fondly, singing this hymn around the house. Harriette had a way of waking up renewed, knowing God’s compassion no matter what life threw at her.
This hymn was inspired by these verses from Lamentations 3:22) Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed: For his compassions never fail. 23) They are new every morning: Great is your faithfulness: 24) I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion, therefore I will wait for Him.”
Harriette was an inspiration of God’s faithfulness to her children and will be greatly missed.

Sweet sweet Harriette. I so looked forward to seeing you at ceramics class every week. There are some people you meet in your life that you immediately feel a connection with; a kind of peace that no matter what you were loved. Since ceramics class came to an end, I have often thought of you and your amazing hugs. And there was always a “love ya” attached to those hugs. After the first of the year I was hoping to get together with you and some of the others in class and do some ceramic painting and just catch up. I know that if and when I do get together with some of the others, your presence will be felt. And hopefully I’ll feel a surge of warmth confirming your presence and reminding me of those wonderful hugs. You will be missed. Until we meet again my friend. My deepest sympathies go out to Harriette’s family.
To Harriette’s family. I’m very sorry to hear about Harriett hugs & prayers to all, I will remember all the good times we had at bowling and on our tournaments. My picking her up & take her to the bowling alley. She was a wonderful lady.
