Age 81, passed away at Borgess Pipp Hospital on Saturday, February 23, 2019. Jerald was born in Kalamazoo on September 5, 1937, the son of the late Jerald John and Thelma (Losey) Jarsma. He graduated from Kalamazoo Christian High School Class of 1955. He served our country with honor in the Army National Guard. He had a strong faith in the Lord and was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a long time member of Second Christian Reformed Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir. His gentle smile and handshake will be missed on Sunday mornings. Jerald was also a volunteer fireman for the city of Parchment for many years. He was a hard worker and was employed as a structural draftsman for Walker Parking Consultants for several years. When not working, he enjoyed reading and working on model trains. He also worked as a high school and college referee for several years. Above all, Jerald loved his family and leaves them with the legacy of a life lived for others. On March 30, 1962, he married the love of his life Carolyn Jarsma who survives. He is also survived by three children, Jerald Lee Jarsma, Brian (Cynthia) Jarsma and Melissa Laylon; four grandchildren, Truman Jarsma, Danielle Laylon, Andrew Laylon and Nicklas Jarsma; two siblings, Bruce Jarsma and Cherilyn Haack; nieces, nephews and friends. He was also preceded in passing by a daughter, Deborah Jarsma; grandson, Dylan Jarsma; sister, Alicia Farrell.
