A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 4, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Riverside Cemetery. 1015 Gull Rd., Kalamazoo. Memorial Contributions may be made to Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes, Kalamazoo Gospel Ministries, the Arthritis Foundation or a charity of one’s choice, in c/o the funeral home.
Obituary
Joyce Helen Meninga age 81 of Kalamazoo passed away Monday, August 24, 2026. Joyce was the daughter of John L. and Helen P. (Spencer) Meninga. She was born on February 3, 1945, the day before her mother’s birthday. Joyce graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School and Western Michigan University with B.A. and M. A. degrees. She was an elementary and reading teacher. Joyce enjoyed playing the piano, taking people on errands and appointments and having lunch or dinner with friends. She was a member of Parchment United Methodist Church where she helped with Sunday School, receptions, bazaars, coffee and conversation time, and played the piano for some summer services. She was a member and secretary for the Gull Prairie Garden Club. She was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by cousins and friends.
My wife Sheri and I met Joyce while she was a resident at Story Point assisted living. She attended the worship services we brought, and through that we learned of strong faith in Jesus. We quickly became friends with her, and had the privilege of walking with her during the ups and downs she experienced, especially with her health in the last few months. Joyce is a dear friend, we will miss her greatly, and will look forward to seeing her again in heaven.
