Joyce M. Penny

June 7, 1929 – June 27, 2020

A celebration of Joyce’s life will be held on Sunday, July 5, 2020 at River Oaks County Park in the Marrow Pond Shelter, 9202 E. Michigan Ave., Galesburg, MI 49053, from 1:00 to 6:00 PM. Interment will be held at Ft. Custer National Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or Youth for Christ.

Obituary

Age 91, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 27, 2020. Joyce was born in Kalamazoo on June 7, 1929, the daughter of the late Virgil and Gladys (Stillwell) Sanford. Joyce was a woman of deep faith and was committed to the work of her Lord. She was a longtime member of Kalamazoo Missionary Church where she oversaw the prayer line and spent many Sundays as an usher. She enjoyed working in her yard and gardening. Joyce loved her family and hosting gatherings. She was a talented cook and artist. Joyce also loved traveling with her husband and playing card games. On November 15, 1957, she married the love of her life, Leonard D. Penny, who preceded her in death on March 12, 2012. Joyce was also preceded in death by her son, Mike L. Penny; grandson, Brian Gene Penny; and siblings, Gene Sanford and Janet Chambers. She is survived by her children, Gene (Bonnie) Penny, Steve (Aurora) Penny, John (Debra) Penny, Loren (Johanna) Penny and Elizabeth (Andrew) McClenton; daughter in-law, Cathy Penny; brother, Virgil “Bud” (Betty) Sanford; 20 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Loren, Johanna and family, We are so sorry for your loss. So glad she is home with your dad now. Your mom was definitely a prayer warrior and a beautiful example of a woman after God’s own heart.
