Age 80, passed away at Kairos Dwelling Home, surrounded by her loving family and friends.  She was born in Detroit, Michigan, on April 26, 1938, daughter of the late George Russell and Esther Irene (Dawkins) Warthen. Judy was passionate about everything in her life.  She attended Western Michigan University earning both a Bachelors and Masters Degree in education. She taught 6^th grade at Indian Prairie Elementary.  She then met and married Stanley “Stan” Luykx on November 23, 1963 and they celebrated nearly 55 years of happiness. Judy was a very kind person. She was active in many groups and activities in the community.She was involved in the Girl Scouts both as a Girl Scout Leader (for 26 years,) and a Neighborhood Liaison person for the Glowing Embers Girl Scout Council. Judy also tutored children and adults with learning disabilities while working for the Specific Language Center. Judy also served on the United Way board of Richland. Judy loved music and played the viola in the orchestra both in high school (Denby High School) and Western Michigan University. She also sang in the choir at St. Timothy\'s Episcopal Church for many years. Judy’s other likes were sewing and baking. She made many clothes for her family.  One of things many people will remember her for is the massive amounts of the Dutch pastry “Banket” that she produced over the years, for the annual St. Nicholas Day celebration on the 6^th of December. She leaves to cherish her memory, her love, Stanley Luykx of Richland, MI; son Andrew (Deborah) Luykx of Portage, MI, Daughter Jennifer Luykx, of Kalamazoo along with her beloved grandchildren, Amanda and Alex Luykx, as well as her nephew, George (Jackie) Warthen.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved brother, David Warthen.
