Obituary
PAUL, Kathy L.
Kalamazoo
Age 62, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 31, 2022. Kathy was born in Alma, Michigan on April 21, 1960, the daughter of the late Lyle E. and Mary E. “Betty” (McNeill) Paul. She was a graduate of Alma High School, class of 1978. Kathy spent her early years working for her father’s pharmacy, eventually leading to her life-long career as a Pharmacy Technician. Kathy most recently spent the last 20 years of her career working for the Kalamazoo Psychiatric Hospital. She was the most loving grandma to her three grandsons, to whom she was like a second mother. Kathy enjoyed watching them play sports, accompanying them to school functions and spending time with them at the beach, amusement parks and having fun with them on vacations. She loved sports, especially football, often getting excited and shouting at the players on her TV. Kathy also loved reading and spending time at the beach, but most of all, she enjoyed being around her beloved daughters and grandsons. She will be missed every day. Kathy is survived by her daughters, Jordan and Alix Word; grandsons, Mekhi, Jayden and Elijah; brother, Mike (Kathy) Paul; sister, Karen (John) Fricke and brother in-law, Bruce Word. Besides her parents, Kathy was preceded in death by her ex-husband and best friend, Brian Word and brother, Patrick Paul. In accordance with Kathy’s wishes, cremation will take place and the family is planning a private memorial to celebrate her life that will take place at a later date.
So sorry to hear of this! I loved her and her family! My prayers and thoughts will be with her family. I know she loved them very much!!
I am saddened to hear of Kathy’s passing. I knew her for 10 years at KPH. She was always pleasant and willing to help. I appreciated that she knew staff and patients by name. I was a Pharmacy Tech before becoming an RN, so we shared some common interests. Sending blessings to her family and those who loved her.
I have worked at the Kalamazoo psychiatric hospital for 18 years. I am a huge Michigan fan. Kathy and I would always talk Michigan sports. Once I ran into her at a Michigan football game and was able to sit with her down in the front row and cheer on the team. She had photos of her family at her desk, and she was a proud Granma. Kathy will be missed by so, many!
