Obituary
Age 36, passed away at her home on January 25, 2024. She was born in Kalamazoo, MI, on December 4, 1987, the daughter of the late James and Deborah (Faulkner) Nuyen. Krista was kind and loving and was a joy to know. She had a fun spirited attitude and always looked on the brighter side of life. She graduated from Comstock High School, Class of 2006. She remained in Southwest Michigan. She was a loyal UofM fan and enjoyed spending Saturdays at The Big House! She loved sunshine and beaches and spent many days on the shores of South Haven. When diagnosed with leukemia she received a bone marrow transplant from her sister Kelsea which helped her go into remission. Her outlook and joy for life never wavered and she battled through her treatments. She found a fondness for the simple things in life and liked to take walks and spend time in nature. Above all Krista loved her family and her friends. She was especially close with her nieces and nephews, and she leaves behind many wonderful memories to cherish. Krista is survived by three siblings, Thomas Cook, Michael (Stacy) Cook and Kelsea Nuyen; nieces and nephews, Alexis Greenwood, David and Anthony Cook, Jada and Mikey Cook, Kiarah Grills, John, Ryan and Trista Esman; other extended family and friends. She was also preceded in passing by a brother, David Cook.
My dear Krista, Your presence in this world made it a better place. You will be missed by so many. I had the pleasure of growing up with you through school and continuing our friendship/family bond for many years after! You would help anyone that came to you, no questions asked which I admired about you. I am thankful that you allowed me into your circle because once you were in, you had a loyal, loving, caring friend for life! We love you and will miss you!
My friend Krista. You were my first friend when I moved to a new school and I knew no one, you welcomed me immediately. Your heart had no limits in its love for others. We drifted apart for some years after high school but found our way back into each other lives. Our friendship transcended time. We picked up where we left off all those years ago. We got closer than ever when you lived with me and my family, even after you moved out, you would often come stay the night for sometimes a week. I would come stay with you, we would eat, chat and of course ride on the back roads and smoke one of those famous fatties only you could roll! There was not a day you didn’t say ‘Good Morning’, I always looked forward to it, I will forever say ‘Good Morning’ to you when I look into the sky. I take solice in knowing you are at peace and with your mom, dad and brother. You will forever be in my heart with the fondest of memories!
