In accordance with Laurel’s wishes, cremation will take place and a private graveside service will take place at a later date where she will be laid to rest with her late husband, John.
Obituary
Laurel Louise (Stoneburner) Ewaschuk was born to Eunice (Bruce) and Truman Stoneburner on April 4, 1940 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She was employed by the City of Kalamazoo for 37 years in various capacities. She passed away peacefully on Monday, May 4, 2020. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Ewaschuk and grandson, James Robert Ely, as well as her parents, infant brother, Milford A. Stonburner. Survivors include daughters, Vanya M (Ewaschuk) Ely, her husband, James D. Ely, daughter Tracy L, (Ewaschuk) Zwagerman, her husband, Cameron J. Zwagerman, grandchildren Jacob R. Ely, Jordan D. Ely, his wife Ashley A. and their son, Dylan L. Ely, Bryce J. Zwagerman, Connor J. Zwagerman and Riley L. Zwagerman. Laurel is also survived by her sister, Beatrice L. Beck, a Special cousin, Harold D. Bruce and good friends, Donna B. Ferguson and Janet M. Lamb. The family wishes to thank Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan for all of their support and care during this difficult time. Many thank also go to friends, brothers and sisters in faith for their many cards, concern and prayers.

Laurel has always been a wonderful and friend filled with loving thoughts and her love of Our Savior. We ask that our Father in heaven to give strength and peace to all her family members, loved ones, and friends which knowing her, are very abundant. Laurel our true and loving friend who always exuded kindness, we pray we can join you in the true peace which we all as God loving Christians, could ever and always want above all things. I remember Laurel’s sweetness and kind nature and her dedication to her children and grandchildren. May you rest peacefully Laurel, as we all look forward to the Great Family Reunion.
I remember Laurel’s smile. She always had one whenever I would see her throughout City of Kalamazoo either the City Hall building or the former Public Safety building on Rose and Lovell. She was a joy to work with for the short time I knew her prior to her retirement. May god bless your family and friends you leave behind until you are all united again in time.
