In accordance with his wish cremation will take place and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Obituary

Age 67, passed away on November 25, 2021, at his home in Sturgis. He was born in Allegan, MI, on August 5, 1954, the son of the late Leo Mitchell Sr. and Erma Mitchell-Shroeder. He attended Allegan high School where he excelled at several sports.  Leo was a hard worker and enjoyed being around anything mechanical. He owned and operated L&C Mitchell Asphalt Company for several years. He also operated heavy equipment for several other companies including H.J. Deaton & Son. When not working he loved bowling and was a member of several leagues throughout Southwest Michigan. He achieved two 300 games in his career which earned him his “300 Ring.” He was also an avid bingo player. Leo also enjoyed riding his dune buggies, mud trucks and cruising in his 1923 Ford Coup. Above all Leo loved his family and his friends. His laughter, kindness and genuine personality will be missed by all who loved him. He leaves behind many wonderful memories to cherish. Leo is survived by his loving daughter, Katrina (Zach Hoover) Mitchell; three stepchildren, Travis (Lisa) Hall, Falynn Hall and Desiree Hall; three siblings, Michael Mitchell Sr., Lorraine (Michael) Dangerfield, Arlene Mitchell; three stepsiblings, Stacey Bush, Lisa Billingsley, Erin Rehberger; a sister-in-law, Theresa (Howard) Young; special family member, Paula Batey-VanDorsten; many nieces, nephews and extended family. He was also preceded in passing by a stepfather, Ronald Schroder; siblings, Anthony and Terry Mitchell.

I will miss my father. I am very happy that we were able to reunite after 40 years apart. The time we spent together will always be cherished.

Paula, I am so sorry for the loss of your newly found biological father. As his oldest daughter you made him a father. For that he always heals a special spot in his heart for you. I’m so happy you were able to reconnect before it was to late. His family was whole and so was his ❤️.
