Lois will be laid to rest privately next to her husband at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Portage United Church of Christ or the Lucinda Hinsdale Stone Chapter NSDAR.
Obituary
Age 85, passed away on Sunday, February 14, 2021. Lois was born in Chicago, Illinois on October 5, 1935, the daughter of the late Harold E. and Ethel B. (Rizer) Peel. She attended the University of Colorado and Western Michigan University. Lois was a long-time member of Portage United Church of Christ, where she was active in the church choir. She also belonged to the Lucinda Hinsdale Stone Chapter NSDAR, Schoolcraft Ladies Library, Daughters of the Union NSDU, Schoolcraft and Michigan Historical Societies, Kalamazoo Valley and New England Historical Genealogical Societies and Portage Senior Center. On June 12, 1954, Lois was united in marriage to Michael MacNaughton Farrand, who preceded her in death on May 10, 2014. Lois was also preceded in death by her son in-law, Rick Newton. She is survived by her children, David E. (Deborah) Farrand, Jill F. Newton and Jon M. Farrand; grandchildren, Matthew L. (Missy) Harwood, Katherine F. (Joshua Wooden) Harwood, Stuart A. (Camilla) Farrand and Elizabeth Newton; three great-grandchildren; as well as her sister, Jane Grant.
Dear Jon, We were so sorry to hear about the loss of your mom. We send our love and prayers to you and all your family. I remember fondly the last conversation I had with your mom a few months ago. She was always so kind and friendly, and loved to visit! She told me how kind hearted she felt you were, for putting your life on hold to take care of her for so long, and how happy she was that she had you for a son. She said she loved all the carry outs you brought her, how she enjoyed your company, and what good care you took of her. She said she was so thankful that you kept her from having to go into a nursing home. I loved visiting with her. I will always remember Lois as a very kind & pleasant soul. I enjoyed her company often. I am so sorry for her loss to her family.
