A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 20, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Joldersma & Klein Funeral Home with Fr. Ron Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park – South. Visitation will take place at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Ministry with Community, c/o the funeral home.
Obituary
Age 101, passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2019. Madeline was born in Normal, Illinois on April 9, 1918, the daughter of the late Fred and Esther (Stevens) Hines. She was a graduate of Western Michigan University and retired from Kalamazoo Public Schools. Madeline was a longtime member of 1st Baptist Church of Kalamazoo and a lifetime member of the Ladies Library Association. Madeline enjoyed the outdoors, playing Bridge, dancing and traveling. She also enjoyed teaching senior swimming classes and preschool exercise classes at the YMCA. In 1939, she married Harlan N. Stanger, who proceeded her in death in 1968. She re-married again in 1971, to Donald A. Williams, he preceded her in death in 1987. Madeline was also preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon Perry; brother, Larry Hines and sister, Gwen Gunn. She is survived by her children, Maribeth (Gene) Coonfare and Brett (Carol) Stanger; nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Ohhhhh Miss Maddie im sooooo gonna miss seeing you at FVK you certainly were a one of a kind….always smiled when you saw me in the hall or dining room and loved to talk to me….I’ll never forget the time you and I painted a picture together during social hour that is something I’ll never forget that and the nurse asking me to help talk to you so you could take your medications…you will always hold a special place in my heart RIP My dear friend Ryan Ewing-Former housekeeper in the health center at FVK
Absolutely loved the pictures! Shows what a beautiful lovely lady she was, and her love for family shines through them all!! So sorry for your loss Carol & Brett and family. No matter the age, its always hard to say good-bye!
Mrs. Stanger (as I knew her) was my kindergarten teacher at West Main Elementary during the 1965-1966 school year, nice to see she had such a long and fulfilling life with a beautiful and loving family. Some people say that everything we really need to know we learn in kindergarten, if that’s the case, then I’m very grateful that Mrs. Stanger was my teacher.
