A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 24, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. at the Artisan of Heritage Community, 2300 Portage Rd., Kalamazoo. Those wishing to attend are encouraged to come with photographs and memories of Nancy. Memorial contributions may be made to the scholarship fund of Ladies of the Lake of Richland, in c/o the funeral home.
Obituary
Age 83, passed away Monday morning, June 10, 2024. Nancy was born in Pontiac, MI, on June 27, 1940, the daughter of Kenneth and Pauline (Derby) Young, Sr. On June 20, 1964, she married Robert Lynden Smith who preceded her in death in 2004. She was a 1962 graduate of Western Michigan University where she majored in Education. Nancy was a teacher for 35 years in the Kalamazoo Public Schools, specializing for many years in special education. In her retirement she was a member of PEO, the Ladies of the Lake of Richland and the Red Hat Society. She was an avid traveler. She made many friends wherever she went and was a friend to many at the Artisan where she made her final home. Nothing was more important to her than her grandchildren. Nancy is survived by her daughter, Julia (Winston) Tsang of Canton, MI; grandchildren, Isabelle, Cecilia and Ethan Tsang; brother, Kenneth W. Young, Jr.; and many friends.
My heartfelt condolences to Nancy’s family. Her brother Ken is such a dear friend. Nancy sounds like she lived a beautiful life.
Nancy was a dear friend. She and Lin were my long term clients as I am a financial consultant. Nancy was an excellent and dedicated teacher. She will be missed. Condolences to Ken and Julia.
