Nancy VanDonselaar, age 76, passed away at her home in Mattawan on September 27, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. She was born in Kalamazoo, MI, on January 7, 1950, the daughter of the late Christopher and Henrietta (Esman) Schipper. Nancy was a kind, loving and generous woman who made a difference in the world around her. She grew up in Kalamazoo and was a graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School, Class of 1968. She went on to graduate from Borgess School of Nursing in 1971 and began a career with Borgess Hospital where she worked for many years. Her love, compassion and care made a difference in the lives of countless patients. In 1971, she married William “Bill” VanderMeeden III and adopted two children, Corrine and William IV. Bill passed away in 1981. Nancy continued to raise their children and began working for Hemo Dialysis. She retired after thirty-five years there. Her strong faith in the Lord served as a foundation for her life and helped her through the most difficult times. She was a lifelong member at Hope Church where she sang in the choir and at evening services. She also took great enjoyment from her BSF Bible Study Group. Known for having a “giving heart” she was active with Bethany Christian Services and with Alternatives of Kalamazoo. She also participated in many mission trips. In 1996 she met Donald “Don” VanDonselaar and the two were married in 1997. They made it a point to care for one another and for each other’s families. Nancy and Don enjoyed traveling and visited nearly all the lighthouses in Michigan. Nancy also enjoyed birdwatching, especially Chickadee’s, enjoyed cross-stich and never missed an episode of MASH on TV. Known as “Nikon Nance” she also had a knack for capturing the moment on her Nikon camera. Above all Nancy loved her Lord, her family and her friends. She leaves behind the legacy of a life well lived and will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband, Donald Lee VanDonselaar; children, Corrine (Shannon) Neudeck, William VanderMeeden IV; stepdaughters, Megan (Richard) Rowe and Melissa (Jordan) Wilcox; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; brother, Chris (Diane) Schipper; sister, Laura (Dale) Sweet; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
