A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 22, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Prairie Edge Christian Reformed Church, 9316 Oakland Dr., Portage, MI 49024; the Rev. Dr. Ronald Geschwendt officiating. Private interment with full military honors will be at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Visitation will take place at Joldersma & Klein Funeral Home on Sunday, July 21, 2019 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation and thanks to the staff at the Battle Creek VA Medical Center for the care they provided to Neil. Memorial contributions may be made to the Battle Creek VA Medical Center-Palliative Care Unit or the West Michigan Cancer Center.
Obituary
Age 88, passed away at the Battle Creek VA Medical Center on Sunday, July 14, 2019. Neil was born in Albion, Michigan on November 28, 1930, the son of the late Bennett and Lena (Hughes) Garrison. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army and retired from Stryker Corporation in 1995. Neil was a member of the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans and enjoyed golfing, the outdoors and wintering in Haines City, Florida. His family was always the central focus of his life and he loved spending time with them. On September 6, 1952, Neil was united in marriage to the former Joyce L. Martin, who survives. He is also survived by his children, Jeffrey (Karen) Garrison and Susan (Todd) Taylor; grandchildren, Patrick (Patrick Geary) Garrison, Jamie (Dr. T.J.) Carls, Kathryn Garrison and Allyson and Emilee Taylor; great-grandson, Cameron Carls; sister, Florence DePouw; in-laws, Lou Martin and James (Arlene) Martin; as well as several nieces and nephews. Neil was preceded in death by his infant brother, Bennett Garrison, Jr. and brothers in-law, Harold DePouw and Robert Martin.
