Obituary
Renate Taylor completed her bucket list of life and peacefully passed away on October 9, 2021. To be special and unique, you start your life with a Leap Year Birthday in 1936. She was born in Dresden, Germany and endured the hardships of the war before marrying an American soldier from Kalamazoo. Coming to America by ship, it could be said she learned her English from the sailors onboard. With her second husband, she had a son, Mark Taylor. Renate brought plenty of culture with her to the states like dancing, dinner parties, cooking and enjoyed golfing, traveling, and basking in the sun. She was one of the founders of the Kalamazoo Weavers Guild. Renate was a lab technician at Upjohn and then later fulfilled her love of fashion, working at Macy’s. On the side, she baked and sold German Tortes from her home. As a grandmother, she spent all her time spoiling her grandchildren, Vaughn and Oliver, until her dog, Toby came, then everyone took a second seat. Once you met her, you never forgot her. In accordance with her wish, cremation will take place and no service is scheduled.
Renate will always hold a special place in our hearts. When I was a teenager, Renate would take Mark and I to the beach, it seemed like every week in the summer. I remember Mark always had to vacuum out the car as soon as we got back home. She was a special lady who raised an amazing son. Prayers of comfort to the Taylor family during this difficult time.
What a treasure, she was! I was just thinking of her, yesterday!! I didn’t see Renata regularly, only when I wanted a very special torte! I loved the mocha one…many friends and family enjoyed it during a special occasion. So lovely to have known her! So sorry for your loss
Mark— Thinking of you and your family-sending hugs and love ♥️
Renate, You were truly a wonderful person, inside and out. Rest in peace, my friend.
I have one word that best describes Renate to me, “Unique”. She was one of a kind. You always knew where you stood with her, no guess work. She was smart, had her opinion and stuck to it. I miss her, our conversations and time spent together over the years.
Mark, Vaughn and Oliver may the wonderful memories Renate created with you and for you comfort your sorrow during this difficult time. She was my mother from Kalamazoo RIP
