Obituary
Roger L. “The Dang Legend” Wedig, Sr., passed away peacefully, after a strong, hard battle with many health issues, including cancer in the late 1970s. His family was by his side when he made his final journey on Wednesday, January 16, 2019. He was born on September 2, 1934 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of Gordon J. and Margaret Wedig. Roger honorably served our country in the US Navy during the Korean War. While in the Navy, Roger met Donna on a blind date, and within a couple of weeks, became newlyweds. He had convinced Donna that he had to get married. He enjoyed many things, including camping, fishing, hunting, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, as a Boy Scout Leader. He was a Wheeler-Dealer, buying and selling musical equipment, cars, and was truly a jack of all trades, and even built home-made water beds. As a musician, he formed his own country-western bands which included “Roger and the Good- Timers” and the “Midwest Mountaineers”, and remained friends with his band mates throughout his lifetime. He enjoyed making up silly songs about ordinary, everyday things and told his stories through his music. Roger always began with “Hey, listen… let me tell you somethin”… always a teeny bit exaggerated. He had convinced his grandkids (and some are still convinced) that he had an alligator in the basement. Roger had a nickname for everyone and everything and loved everyone who crossed his path. He was the master of humorous sarcasm and made all his family feel like they were his favorite. Roger had a servant’s heart made of gold. He never met someone he couldn’t talk to. His music was extremely important to him and always wanted to sing special music for his church and his family and friends. After his first wife, Donna passed away, Roger had attended a dance for “Parents Without Partners” at Airway Lanes and ended up meeting a gal named Barbara Novitsky, and married her the next year on November 12, 1988. Together, they recently celebrated 30 years of marriage. They made more memories together with each other’s families. He included everyone and opened his heart and home to all who crossed his path. He was there for everyone at every turn. The stories they created together would make a best-selling novel (Ta-Da!). He was preceded in death by his first wife, Donna, his parents, a brother, Gordon and a great grandson Riley Rhodes. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Barbara, and their children, Diana Chenoweth, Roger (Jana) Wedig; Tammy (Dennis) Kohler; Dawn (Jason) Fitch; Josey (Ray) Campbell; Susan (Scot) Moore and John Novitsky, 22 grandchildren, and 28 great grandchildren.

i love you papa, fly high sweet angel ??
Diana, Tammy, Roger and Dawn, I am so sorry for your loss. I remember your father well when your family lived on Ridgewood Street. I can remember him giving Diana and I a ride to school in his white pickup truck sometimes. He was a jokester. One day I ate dinner at your house. Diana and I were probably in middle school. Your mom announced at the table that she had bought a new flavor of cookies. While we were all around the table finishing our meal, your dad said he was going to try one of the cookies. As I was drinking a glass of milk, he took a bite of the cookie, jumped up from the table and fell on the floor. This was his reaction to the taste of the cookie. He had us all laughing and my milk went all over me. He was also a great contractor. Several years ago I hired him to do some drywall repair. Professional and friendly. I hope in time you all will find peace in knowing that he is with you always.
