Obituary

Ronald Myrl Olson died on December 25, 2023. He was born September 17, 1952, to parents, Jack and Norma (Kinser) Olson in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Ron was the oldest of seven children and graduated from Vicksburg High School in 1970.

In 1985, he married the love of his life, Brenda Shingledecker, and they celebrated their 38th anniversary in July. Ron and Brenda have one son and one grandson. Ron loved his grandson very much and worked hard to spoil him at every opportunity!

Ron was employed by Graphics Packaging for 42 years where he worked as a forklift driver. He worked long hours and definitely earned the right to retire in 2013.

Ron enjoyed racing RC boats and cars with his son, Eric. Their favorite places to race were Celina, Ohio and Hobart, Indiana where they traveled many times. Ron also enjoyed old cars and liked attending the annual Old Car Festival in Vicksburg. Ron was a true supporter of Donald Trump and loved having the opportunity to debate the subject with anyone who would listen. He enjoyed bass fishing as well. But, more than anything, he loved spending time with his beloved grandson, Junior. It gave him great joy to ride quads with Junior and act like a kid himself.

Ron is survived by his wife, Brenda; son, Eric (Kayla) and grandson, Eric Junior. Also surviving are Ron’s siblings, Dennis (Karen) Olson, David (Kim) Olson, Karen (Tom) Dillon, Brenda (Joel) Nelson and Jack Olson; sister-in-law, Cindy (Lynn) Goolsby and brothers in-law, Lee (Robin) Ballou and Scott (Jean) Shingledecker and many nieces and nephews. He loved his dogs, Abby, Buster and Ron’s favorite – Bella a/k/a Tater. They will surely miss his presence.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Norma Olson; father and mother in-law, Bill and Connie Shingledecker; and sister, Paula Olson.

A Celebration of life will take place later in 2024. In memory of Ron, please consider a donation to Wings of Hope Hospice.

Ron was a good guy. I think he singlehandedly kept RCUniverse going in the 2000’s. He was on every RC boat forum all the time! Ron was known worldwide. I don’t think even he knew how many people know, or know of him. He has helped literally hundreds of people get into RC boats, and we fully appreciate what he did for us and out company. Rest in peace Ron. You earned it!

I will miss Ron. He kicked off our family to lead all of us Olson kids. Growing up I remember he was the first one to take me to a concert of sorts. It was Freddy Fender at the Kalamazoo Fair Grounds then stayed the night at his house and got to stay up really late. It may have been maybe midnight or so but it was the first time I can remember staying up late. Then hanging out playing hours and hours of dice. Ron loved playing games. Going on the dune buggy rides or racing R/C cars and boats. Ron was known in the R/C community. Now he can race the best in heaven. We will miss our brother but we are here for Brenda and Eric. Love you my #1 brother♥️
