Obituary
BECKER, Ruth E.
Kalamazoo
Ruth Becker, 62 of Kalamazoo passed away on December 8, 2021. She is survived by her daughter, Leah Rose Becker of Kalamazoo; her father, Allan Becker of Washington, D.C. and three sisters: Barbara (Jonathan Bilmes) Becker of Connecticut and Israel, Julie (Alan Silverlieb) Becker of Washington, D.C. and Rebecca (Rabbi Aaron) Starr of Southfield, MI; several nieces and nephews and four grandnephews. Ruth loved her family and enjoyed keeping up with everyone’s lives. She held a MSW and worked for many years for agencies serving the needs of seniors. Holding a special passion for the elderly, this work suited her perfectly. She loved animals, especially cats, always trying to find a way to help ones in need. Ruth was born in Detroit, but after living in Kalamazoo during college, she made it her permanent home, even after living in Detroit for a period. She was an avid sports fan, with the Detroit Tigers first and foremost, but she enjoyed football and basketball too. Ruth enjoyed the Jewish holidays, especially Chanukah and looked forward to lighting candles, sending cards and giving small gifts. A funeral service will take place on Sunday, December 12, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Joldersma & Klein Funeral Home. Rabbi Simone Schicker presiding. Burial will follow at Mountain Home Cemetery in Kalamazoo. Memorial contributions may be made to Kalamazoo Animal Rescue.
I am very sorry to learn of Ruth’s passing. Although I haven’t seen Ruth in many years, I was able to keep up to date through talking with her father, Allen Becker. Allen and I are first cousins. His father and mine were brothers, and came to this country together, along with their sister, Rose. Allen and family, please accept my deepest condolences. May Ruth’s memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved her.
