A service in witness to Si’s life and faith will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Agape Christian Church, 609 Cherokee, St., Kalamazoo. Friends may greet the family following the service at the church. Si will be laid to rest next to Glenna at Genessee Prairie Cemetery in Oshtemo. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Michigan Right to Life or Kalamazoo Gospel Ministries.
Obituary
Age 95, of Kalamazoo, passed away Friday morning, August 2, 2024 to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Si was born in Grand Rapids on June 4, 1929, the son of Oepke and Dora (VanHuizen) Monsma. He was a Kalamazoo area resident since 1952. Si was a member of Calvary Bible Church. On August 1, 1952, he married Glenna Kimp who preceded him in death in 2017.
Si loved life and enjoyed traveling with Glenna. He enjoyed sailing, running, bicycling, hunting and fishing. Later in life you could find him walking at Sam\'s Club, Meijer, or Walmart enjoying all the friends he\'d made there. He also spent time with his I-Pad researching things and watching YouTube videos; a learner to the end.
Si is survived by his children, Lori (John) Clement of Paw Paw, Roger (Laura) Monsma of Portage; grandchildren David (Haluka) Roche, Mark Roche, Rebecca (Steve) Chapin, and Aaron (Nicole) Monsma. Si is also survived by nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Dad, even tho you’re my “in-law”, you loved me like a daughter and became like a father to me, too. I will miss you terribly but I don’t grieve as those who have no hope. Because of Jesus, my hope is in him and we will meet again! Dad, I love you.
I have many fine memories of Si through his family, church and friends. He also helped my family with auto insurance for many years…
