A funeral service will take place on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at 11:00 AM in the Cathedral at Valley Family Church, 2500 Vincent Ave., Portage, MI 49024. Interment will follow at Vicksburg Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be given to Valley Family Church-Friday Groceries Program.
Obituary
Age 67, passed away at Acension Borgess Hospital on Tuesday, April 2, 2019. Sheryl was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on June 10, 1951, the daughter of Eugene E. and Phyllis M. (Stroup) Coy. She was an employee of Borgess Hospital, retiring from the Medical Billing Department after 44 years. Sheryl was an avid bowler and participated in many weekly leagues and tournaments over a 50-year period. She also enjoyed travelling. She was a proud Christian and her faith was a very important part of her life. On June 14, 2013, Sheryl was united in marriage to Marty F. Prescott, who survives. She is also survived by her children, Jaclynn (Vincent) Schavone, Andrew Sturgeon and Alexundria Prescott; grandchildren, James and Jessica Schavone and Destinee Sturgeon; parents, Eugene Coy and Phyllis Coy; siblings, Tom (Vicki) Coy, Tracey (Jim) Stokes, Mary (Don) Gilzean, Connie (Chet) Rice and David (Lea) Coy; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Tracey losing a sister is one of the most difficult experiences in life. I know firsthand how you are feeling. I had the extreme pleasure of meeting Sheryl on my first trip to Kazoo. We were in our 20’s, it seems like a lifetime ago. Remember, I’m your soul sister, your retirement buddy and your lifelong friend. Sheryl is now in the Kingdom of Heaven, she is no longer suffering or in pain and will watch over you and your family for eternity. Wish I could be there with you during this difficult time but know that I am there with you in spirit.
You will be greatly missed, Cheryl. Your classmates will remember you with many fond memories. We will have a special place for you in our hearts at our upcoming 50th class reunion. Rest In Peace, beautiful lady. Gone, but NEVER forgotten.
