A memorial service to celebrate Sheryl’s life will take place at Southern Heights Christian Reformed Church, 4141 E. Hillandale Dr., Kalamazoo, MI 49008, on Friday, November 23, 2018 at 10 AM with Pastor Dan Sarkipato officiating. Visiting hours will take place at the church on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 from 7:15 – 9:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Rose Arbor Hospice Residence.
Obituary
Sheryl Lynn Hoogendyk, age 71, passed away at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence on Monday, November 12, 2018. Sheryl was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on August 26, 1947, the daughter of Frederick and Helen (Ruiter) Frieswyk. On December 26, 1967, she was united in marriage to Simon Hoogendyk, MD who survives. Sheryl is also survived by her children, Suzanne (Salvatore) Frederico, Scott (Andrea) Hoogendyk and Stephen (Jessica) Hoogendyk; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; mother and step-father, Helen and Robert, Sr. Penning; sisters, Merri (Bruce) Jelsema and Kathy (Greg) Klooster and step-siblings, Robert, Jr. (Bonnie) Penning and Judy (Bernard) Winkle. She was preceded in death by her father, Frederick and step-brother, James Penning.
Aunt Sheri, To blessed with godly aunts and uncles like you is such a privilege. I have so many wonderful memories of you, Uncle Simon, and your children. I loved your zest for life, your enthusiasm, your joy, and your vibrant love for the Lord. When you talked to people, you made them feel special! Life will not be the same with you missing from the Hoogendyk family. I know you are enjoying worshiping our Savior. Give my mom a hug for me! Love your niece, Kitty
