Obituary

Shurron Dawn Fry, age 69, passed away at Rose Arbor Place on February 8, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. She was born in Kalamazoo, MI, on March 18, 1956, the daughter of the late Phillip and Juanita (Spring) Brown. Shurron was kind, loving, gentle and genuine. She lived her life to the fullest, even in the face of her cancer diagnosis. Her greatest joy came from being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She did her best to always be involved and rarely missed a special moment. Shurron worked hard as an administrative assistant at Kalamazoo College for thirty-seven years. When not working she enjoyed traveling and took a memorable trip along Route 66 Highway. She also enjoyed traveling to Florida to escape the cold winter weeks. She found peace in nature and loved being outdoors. She enjoyed rock hounding, was fond of turtles, dragonflies and daisies. Though quiet and reserved she always enjoyed a good conversation with friends and took time to meet new people along life’s journey. Shurron’s smile, laughter and love will be missed by all who knew her. In 2002 she married Mike Fry, her loving husband who was at her side. She is also survived by her children, Greg (Julie) Hite, Dawn Blevins; grandchildren, McKayla Hite, Alendra Hite, Kelsey Schultz, Sophia Schultz, Bryona Blevins; great-grandchildren, Izzy Hite and Georgia Hite. She was also preceded in passing by two siblings, Phillip Brown and Phillys McKeon.

Growing up we were two peas in a pod. She was a Bridesmaid in my wedding and wore my wedding dress at her first wedding. Unfortunately through the years we lost touch with one another. She was one of the Sweetest and brave person I know battling cancer as long as she did. She touched the lives of many and will be missed by many. Rest in peace cousin, and may God welcome you with open arms.

when I first moved to Galesburg in the 6th grade, Shurron became my friend. We were inseparable. we stayed in touch for many years following school, watched each others kids grow up and then it was our babies, having babies. I lost track of her for a small time, fortunately Facebook brought us back together. You were a beautiful soul and I will miss you beyond words. I love you my forever friend
