Obituary

On March 16, 2026, Susan Ruth Mumma passed away after a 15-month battle with glioblastoma at Bronson Hospital surrounded by her loving parents and aunt. Susan was born in Kalamazoo on March 10, 1981, to Keith and Sally Mumma. She was a graduate of Loy Norrix High School and received her associate’s degree from Kalamazoo Valley Community College. She furthered her career taking Google training courses online. Her life had physical challenges but that never stopped her from being a bright shining light for others with her kind and loving heart. It was with joy in her servant’s heart that she served at her positions with Community Advocates (ARC), Kalamazoo DHS, a patient sitter at Borgess Hospital and as a receptionist at a local accountant. Susan also enjoyed beta testing for new software and games.

Susan loved to surprise family and friends with special gifts and treats. She always offered support and compassion for family and friends that faced struggles. She adored being cat mama to her special companion, Bud-Bud. Throughout her life, Susan appreciated a variety of music including Celtic/Gregorian chants, Phantom of the Opera, and Broadway musicals. A road trip was one of Susan’s favorite activities, especially if it took her to the cottage or her cousin’s home. Susan enjoyed video games, playing cards, and Scrabble tournaments, but she especially loved going to the movies with her Dad and getting pumpkin spice lattes with her Mom. Family and friends will especially miss Susan’s loving heart, sweet smile, and her great sense of humor.

She is survived by her parents, Keith and Sally, many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and companion, Jeremy Gummelt. She was preceded in passing by her brother, Christopher Mumma.

I haven’t been online much, and unfortunatly only just found out about Sue’s passing. We haven’t seen each other in years, but I think about her often… My heart hurts, knowing she is gone. Sue had such a loving disposition, and was a wonderful friend. She was a beautiful soul, and I will miss her. I am so sorry that I missed her service – I would have absolutely been there had I known. Sending so much love to her family and friends <3
