A funeral service will be held at Joldersma & Klein Funeral Home on Friday, October 22, 2021 at 2:00 PM, with the Rev. Dr. Don J.H. Tynes officiating. A time of visitation will take place at the funeral home, one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the SPCA of Southwest Michigan.

KING, Tanya E.

Age 40, passed away on Saturday, October 16, 2021. Tanya was born in Manhattan, New York on May 28, 1981 and moved to Michigan in 1993.

She attended Howard University and Columbia College in Chicago to study dance before she earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism from Western Michigan University. Tanya had planned to complete her graduate studies to become a Physician’s Assistant.

She loved her job as a medical scribe and helping people. She also enjoyed music, art and dance.

Tanya shared a very special relationship with her sister, Yolana who survives.

She is also survived by her parents, Sharon King of New York City and Anthony “Tony” (Joanne) King of Kalamazoo; grandparents, Charles and Georgie Edmonds and Julia Best; beloved step-brothers and sister; as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins. Tanya was preceded in death by her grandfather, Albert Battle. She will be missed by many friends and associates.

Tanya, I’m going to long hanging out, gossiping, sharing inappropriate memes and studying with you while at Derek’s house. I’m gonna miss watching horror flicks, discussing current events as well as ‘working on getting thick’ with you. I pray Yoyo, Dr. King, Mrs. King, your Mother and the rest of your family the strength to get through this trying time. I love you and I’ll see you when I get there Ms. Purse Whiskey. ‘Insider’.

To the King family, I am so very sorry for the loss of your beautiful daughter. I pray for the strength of your family to get through this very tragic time. I only got to know you for a short time Tanya, but you were one of the kindest, most funniest, beautiful souls I have ever met. While I only saw Tanya while visiting the clinic where she worked, she was always accommodating if I had questions and so pleasant–such a kind spirit to work with and have known. Just saw her last Thursday, and we definitely feel the void!!
