Obituary
Tom was born to Robert J. and June M. Halm and was raised in a close-knit Irish Catholic family. He treasured the relationships he shared with his family and friends. He is survived by his brother, Robert Halm and wife Janet; his nephews, Robert M. Halm and Jonathan (Mito) Halm; his nieces, Shannon O’Rourke (Peter), Amanda Halm (Jake Theis), and Nicole Halm; Brandy Halm; Tricia (Nate) Wotring and Joanne Halm; as well as numerous cousins and extended family members. Anthony Kastelic, brother by choice, was a lifelong friend. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Patrick Halm and Tracy Halm.
Tom attended St. Gall Grammar School from first through eighth grade before graduating from St. Rita High School, where he was an honor roll student and ranked among the top five percent of his graduating class. He continued his education at Bradley University, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Business and becoming a proud member of the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity.
For more than 25 years, Tom built a successful career in sales, specializing in replacement windows, solar panels, and home improvement products. His natural ability to connect with people, combined with his outgoing personality and sense of humor, made him an exceptional salesman. He retired on April 17, 2025.
A true South Sider, Tom had a lifelong passion for sports. He enjoyed playing 16-inch softball and was a devoted fan of the Chicago Bears, Chicago White Sox, and Notre Dame athletics. He also enjoyed cheering for whoever happened to be playing the Cubs. In recent years, he became a loyal supporter of the Kalamazoo Growlers. Tom was known for his remarkable memory, especially when it came to recalling the jersey numbers of ballplayers. He loved comedy and was always ready with a joke and a story that could make others laugh.
Among the many things that brought Tom joy was his beloved cat, Rick.
Tom will be remembered for his warmth, his quick wit, his gift for conversation, and the genuine kindness he showed to everyone he met. His lasting impact on family, friends, and all who knew him will be cherished for years to come.
Tom was a calm spirit and genuinely kind human. We were classmates at both St. Gall and Bradley University. He will be remembered as a consummate gentleman. May your memories be a comfort. God’s speed, Tom.

Oh what a brilliant Man,Tommy whose gone to Heaven who was an Amazing Man who will be missed by so many of us! My deepest sympathy goes out to Tommy’s family and loved ones who include so many of us who had the pleasure of working with him at Climax Solar! He brought his humor, love, comical ways, assisting others, setting appointments no one else could, knew just how to talk to people n loved all of those he worked with n talked daily about his cat, Rick. He will be missed and I was one of so many who had the honor of knowing, loving, learning from and have Tommy lift me up when I really went through some hard times when I had a few strokes! He was so encouraging and there for me! Forever he will be missed but pray I will see him again in Heaven! Love you Tommy!

You will be missed. You had the biggest personality and the quickest wit. I loved that you made restaurant reservations under Dr. Thom, that you won the dance off at my wedding (and kept the prized CD forever), and how much you loved your cat, Rick. I’ll miss you always and am grateful for all the times we shared.
