Obituary

Tyler Wayne Mann, the strongest, kindest, most loving person anyone could ever meet, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and friends at The University of Michigan- Mott Children’s hospital on October 24, 2021, at the age of 23, after a battle of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, and post bone marrow transplant complications. Tyler was born February 18,1998, in Kalamazoo, the son of Jeff and Shannon Mann. Tyler attended and played football at Mattawan Schools and graduated in 2016. Tyler went on to study Sports Management and play football at Manchester University, in North Manchester, IN. Tyler graduated from Manchester University in 2020 with his bachelors in Sports Management.

Tyler was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in August 2020, at the young age of 22 and put on a brave, determined face from the first moment of diagnosis.  Tyler did not let Leukemia, chemo treatments, or radiation stop him from shining and bringing smiles and happiness to everyone he encountered. Tyler threw himself into spending as much time as he could with his family and friends doing things he loved. Tyler spent hours watching sports and other loved shows with his family. When he was home, he would spend time having nerf gun wars with his nephew/godson Aedyn.

Tyler is survived by his parents, Jeff and Shannon Mann, his sisters Kaitlyn and Sierra Mann; his nephew Aedyn Mann; his paternal grandparents, Thomas and Carol Mann; maternal grandmother, Kerri Askin; several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Tyler was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Mark Askin Sr. Our family would also like to recognize Tyler’s football coaches, Ryan Brown, Nate Jensen, and Vincent Cashdollar; as well as his closest friends, Tyler Gilles, Tyler Lynn, Justin Thomas, Katie Green, Alex Downard, Dakotah Pratt, Joe Garling, and Ryan Dziewicki. Tyler’s family would like to thank these amazing friends of Tyler’s for becoming his family while he was away from home. You all have touched his life and will forever be a part of our family. Thank you for loving him and not ever letting the distance let you drift apart. You all meant more to Tyler than we could ever begin to describe, thank you for always loving and supporting him.

Son, you were everything and more that dad & I wanted in a son. Even though you weren’t the oldest you still took on the big protector role for both of your sisters and so many others you encountered in life. To know you was to love you and nobody can deny that. Your determination, drive & passion for life helped you overcome any obstacle in your way. Even at the end of your journey your mind & spirit we’re fighting hard to hang on and your body just couldn’t take anymore of the abuse brought on by cancer and it’s treatments. YOU NEVER ONCE GAVE UP! We are so proud to be your parents and our hearts break because we won’t get to see all of the amazing things you could’ve accomplished here on Earth if only given more time. Until your last breathe you were speeding love, laughter & happiness to all who were blessed enough to know you! Until we meet again SonShine, we love you to infinity & beyond, Mom & Dad

Tyler wasn’t only a great teammate, but an amazing person in all aspects of life. He was one of the hardest workers and kindest souls to talk to. Growing up with Tyler, he was a great example of how to treat others. One to always have a smile on his face and a positive attitude in any situation. I can remember all of the great memories we made celebrating, practicing, winning, and losing on the football field. Memories made with his sister and parents as well. I am one of the countless people Tyler Mann has positively affected over his short lifetime. May he Rest In Peace.
