Obituary
Age 74, passed away peacefully and went to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning, June 9, 2021. Vicki was born in Kalamazoo, on January 28, 1947, the daughter of Henry and Naomi (Orbeck) Smit. On July 8, 1978, she married Kevin D. Kuss who survives her. Vicki was a devout member of Portage United Church of Christ and a humble servant of Jesus Christ. She enjoyed visiting the casinos. Her family has memories of her canning fruits every year. She had a great sense of humor and was eventually banned from playing volleyball. She also enjoyed puzzles of all kinds and watching game shows. She relished in making others happy. Nothing was more important to her than her family and she will be sorely missed. Besides her husband, Vicki is survived by her children, Michael (Sheila Frost McFarland) Ruffolo of Frankfort, IL, Tracy (Mitchell) Nagel of Kalamazoo and Angie (Keith) DeKlein of Grand Rapids; grandchildren, Ryan Ruffolo, Sawyer Ruffolo, Megan (Hayden) Frederick, Morgan Lewis, Jamasen DeKlein, Alivia DeKlein; great-grandson, Jayce DeKlein; sisters, Sherry (Frank) Simons, and Linda (William) Stannard; several nieces and nephews and countless friends. Vicki was preceded in death by her parents; and a granddaughter, Meghan Lewis.
Vickie was one of the kindest and most gentle women I have ever known. Always looking out for others whether it’s family, friends or acquaintances. I will always remember her for the years of love my mom, Jennie received from her during her end of life journey at my house. Vickie treated my mom like she was her own mother and I know my mom thought of Vickie as her own daughter! All of the love, laughs, trials, transitions and help received from Vickie will be forever ingrained in my memory. So for now rest my friend, give my mom a hug for me and I will see you again! Jeremiah 29:11 Love, Deb
